Raynor on Sunday morning, March 3 in honor of longtime Police Chief Greg Allen who died unexpectedly last year. Allen, who led the department for nearly 15 years, died on Jan. 17, 2023 at the age of 71. March 3 would have been his 73nd birthday. KTSM.

    Las Cruces police officer killed in stabbing, suspected attacker shot dead

    A Las Cruces Police Department patrol officer was killed, and the suspected attacker was shot to death by a citizen bystander. Officer Jonah Hernandez, 35, died from a stab wound while responding to a trespassing call on Feb. 11. Hernandez, who is from El Paso and has been with LCPD for two years, leaves behind a wife and two sons, ages 10 and 2.

    Update from case Detective: Regarding the murder trial for retired SLMPD Sergeant Ralph Harper. At 1:00pm this afternoon (9/18/23), the defendant pled guilty to Murder 2nd Degree, Robbery 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action. As part of a plea agreement with the State, he was sentenced to 20 years on the Murder 2nd Degree charge, 15 years on the Robbery 1st Degree charge and 6 years on the two Armed Criminal Action charges with the terms to be run concurrently. The Harper family was present in the courtroom and heard the defendant admit his responsibility in the fatal shooting. They are thankful for the support from the SLMPD and are relieved to finally have a conclusion to this tragic incident.
